Draft Grade — Chiefs
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB+ TradesC+ FutureB-
More right than wrong for the Chiefs, and a B- to prove it.

Nobody else had Malachi Lawrence anywhere near No. 112. The Chiefs did, by 35 spots, and that gap is the whole story.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

Trading back for volume was the quiet throughline of their weekend.

A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick12 Rnd1 Carnell Tate
In No. 12 they get a go-to option on the outside. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick40 Rnd2 Emmanuel McNeil-Warren
They paid sticker price for Emmanuel McNeil-Warren in the 40th pick, and that is fine. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick74 Rnd3 Max Iheanachor
No edge and no loss on Max Iheanachor in pick 74; it is a wash and a sensible one. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick109 Rnd4 Kaytron Allen
A reasonable price with a little left over, Kaytron Allen in the Round 4 slot. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick112 Rnd4 Malachi Lawrence
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Malachi Lawrence. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick152 Rnd5 Sam Roush
A reach on Sam Roush in pick No. 152; the board had better options right there. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick176 Rnd5 VJ Payne
They reached into another round for VJ Payne, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick215 Rnd6 Zxavian Harris
No drama and no debate, Zxavian Harris went about where he belonged in the 215th pick. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
