Draft Grade — Texans
Overall B
ValueB NeedB TradesA FutureD+
Bernard should have been long gone. The Texans pounced, and earned a B.

The rest of the league will want that one back. Germie Bernard tumbling to the Texans in the Round 4 slot is a gift they did not have to think twice about.

The Davis pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. It is a win-now wager, and the future is the stake.

A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick28 Rnd1 Kenyon Sadiq
In the 28th overall pick they get a security blanket over the middle at a price that makes it sweeter.
Pick37 Rnd2 Emmanuel Pregnon
Emmanuel Pregnon at the 37th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick38 Rnd2 Caleb Banks
No drama and no debate, Caleb Banks went about where he belonged in slot 38. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick59 Rnd2 Jake Slaughter
Jake Slaughter at Round 2, Pick 27 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick69 Rnd3 Mike Washington Jr.
Mike Washington Jr. in No. 69 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick105 Rnd4 J.C. Davis
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for J.C. Davis. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick106 Rnd4 Germie Bernard
Germie Bernard in pick No. 106 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick141 Rnd5 Chris McClellan
They took Chris McClellan at par in pick 141, which is nothing to complain about. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick167 Rnd5 Kage Casey
Kage Casey in pick 167 lands just on the right side of the ledger. It fills a real need, too.
Pick170 Rnd5 Ar'maj Reed-Adams
No edge and no loss on Ar'maj Reed-Adams in slot 170; it is a wash and a sensible one. The roster fit checks out.
Pick243 Rnd7 Robert Spears-Jennings
A tidy bit of business in Round 7, Pick 27, where Robert Spears-Jennings graded well above the range. It adds depth where they could use a little.
