FutureB-
A sensible, unshowy class lands the Texans a B. There is a lot to like until you notice wide receiver is still a hole. The Texans never got to the one that mattered most. The bottom line is a respectable B.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Banks. Small wins on the phones, but wins all the same. They left with running back solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
They chose more darts over a bigger single swing.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick30
Rnd1
Sonny Styles
In the 30th pick they get the heartbeat of the defense. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick38
Rnd2
Olaivavega Ioane
Olaivavega Ioane at the Round 2 slot is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick59
Rnd2
Caleb Banks
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Caleb Banks in slot 59. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick69
Rnd3
Connor Lew
Connor Lew in Round 3, Pick 5 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick94
Rnd3
Kaytron Allen
By-the-book stuff, Kaytron Allen at No. 94 squarely in line with his ranking. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick106
Rnd4
Bishop Fitzgerald
Bishop Fitzgerald in pick No. 106 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick128
Rnd4
Keylan Rutledge
They read the board right and Keylan Rutledge was the payoff at pick 128. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick130
Rnd4
Mike Washington Jr.
Mike Washington Jr. at the 130th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick165
Rnd5
Xavier Nwankpa
Xavier Nwankpa in Round 5, Pick 27 is fair value, right on his grade. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
