Draft Grade — Lions
Overall B
ValueB NeedB+ TradesB FutureB
Grand theft in slot 63: the Lions steal Slaughter and grade out a B.

Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Lions were there to profit. Jake Slaughter, the No. 43 name on the board, should have been long gone before the 63rd pick. No fireworks, but a solid B.

They will regret leaving linebacker for another day if the season turns on it. Young has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.

Small wins on the phones, but wins all the same. They went 7 of 9 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.

Pick Analysis
Pick31 Rnd1 Zion Young
In the Round 1 slot they get a premier pass rusher, reach and all. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick50 Rnd2 Dillon Thieneman
Dillon Thieneman at pick No. 50 is money in the bank, a safety taken below his worth. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick63 Rnd2 Jake Slaughter
Jake Slaughter at No. 63 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick82 Rnd3 Kamari Ramsey
The board had Kamari Ramsey higher than the 82nd pick, and the safety fell to them anyway. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick118 Rnd4 Caden Curry
Caden Curry is a better player than Round 4, Pick 18 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick125 Rnd4 Tacario Davis
Tacario Davis slid further than he should have, and the 125th overall pick is lovely value for the cornerback. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick155 Rnd5 Aamil Wagner
A conviction pick on Aamil Wagner at pick 155 that the board grades a round light. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick186 Rnd6 Marlin Klein
A tight end of that caliber at slot 186 is the definition of value, full stop. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick194 Rnd6 Miles Kitselman
No edge and no loss on Miles Kitselman in pick No. 194; it is a wash and a sensible one. The roster fit checks out.
Pick203 Rnd6 Cole Payton
A straight-up fair deal on Cole Payton at slot 203, value and slot in agreement. It fills a real need, too.
Pick212 Rnd6 Barion Brown
Barion Brown at the 212th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
