The tape said wait; the Broncos did not. Eli Heidenreich went at pick No. 179, a good 73 picks before the board was ready.

Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. Stribling at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.

The roster is better shaped than it was, with linebacker chief among the fixes.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
