Draft Grade — Lions
Overall

Good, not great, for the Lions: B. Nobody else had Eric O'Neill anywhere near the 187th overall pick. The Lions did, by 27 spots, and that gap is the whole story.
Weigman at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. They will regret leaving linebacker for another day if the season turns on it.
On the needs board they went 5 of 9, with cornerback the one that mattered most. They reloaded the coverage unit in bulk.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick Analysis
Pick17
Rnd1
Mansoor Delane
In pick 17 they get a ballhawk on the outside, outstanding value to boot. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick50
Rnd2
Isaiah World
They talked themselves into Isaiah World at slot 50, and the board did not agree. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick118
Rnd4
D'Angelo Ponds
D'Angelo Ponds slipping to pick No. 118 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick134
Rnd4
Keylan Rutledge
A reasonable price with a little left over, Keylan Rutledge in No. 134. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick156
Rnd5
Jalen Stroman
Jalen Stroman slid further than he should have, and the Round 5 slot is lovely value for the safety. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick187
Rnd6
Eric O'Neill
They reached a country mile for Eric O'Neill at the 187th pick, and the board is aghast. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick204
Rnd6
Trey Zuhn III
Trey Zuhn III at pick No. 204 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick222
Rnd7
Conner Weigman
They barely believed it either: Conner Weigman still on the board at the 222nd pick. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
