Draft Grade — Jets
Overall B
ValueB NeedB+ TradesA+ FutureD-
The Jets answered their biggest question with Mendoza. Grade: B.

The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Jets spent their marquee pick on Fernando Mendoza, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback. Good, not great, and the B says as much.

If Louis pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.

The Downs value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.

Pick Analysis
Pick2 Rnd1 Fernando Mendoza
In the 2nd overall pick they get a passer to set the clock by at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick16 Rnd1 Caleb Downs
In slot 16 they get a two-high chess piece, and a steal at that. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick28 Rnd1 Kenyon Sadiq
In pick 28 they get a red-zone target to build around. Need was not the driver here.
Pick44 Rnd2 CJ Allen
They did well to land CJ Allen in the Round 2 slot, just ahead of his grade. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick70 Rnd3 Malik Muhammad
Malik Muhammad at Round 3, Pick 6 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick103 Rnd4 Parker Brailsford
Parker Brailsford at pick No. 103 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick139 Rnd5 Kyle Louis
A real head-scratcher, Kyle Louis in the 139th pick is miles ahead of his ranking. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick144 Rnd5 Tim Keenan III
Tim Keenan III at No. 144 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It fills a real need, too.
