Draft Grade — Jets
Overall B
ValueB- NeedB+ TradesA+ FutureC
The Jets finally solved quarterback, and it carried them to a B.

Start where it matters. The Jets took Fernando Mendoza to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.

The Gumbs Jr. reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. The phones were where this weekend was really won.

Getting Baynes where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. The Jets clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before.

A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick2 Rnd1 Fernando Mendoza
In the 2nd pick they get the face of the franchise. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick16 Rnd1 Arvell Reese
In pick No. 16 they get a coverage-and-run second-level piece, outstanding value to boot. Need was not the driver here.
Pick35 Rnd2 Chris Bell
They paid sticker price for Chris Bell in No. 35, and that is fine. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick44 Rnd2 Anthony Hill Jr.
A tidy little value on Anthony Hill Jr. in pick 44, a step better than break-even. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick103 Rnd4 Darrell Jackson Jr.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Darrell Jackson Jr. in Round 4, Pick 3. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick125 Rnd4 Jalon Kilgore
A slide stopped in the Round 4 slot, with Jalon Kilgore worth more than the price. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick126 Rnd4 Bryce Lance
The board had Bryce Lance higher than the 126th overall pick, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick175 Rnd5 Zane Durant
Zane Durant at slot 175 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick178 Rnd5 Febechi Nwaiwu
A clean, defensible pick in slot 178 with a little surplus value in Febechi Nwaiwu. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick192 Rnd6 Sawyer Robertson
Sawyer Robertson at pick No. 192 is a conviction pick that outran the value. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick200 Rnd6 Le'Veon Moss
Le'Veon Moss at pick 200 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The roster fit checks out.
Pick206 Rnd6 Kobe Baynes
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Kobe Baynes at Round 6, Pick 27. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick209 Rnd6 Isaiah Nwokobia
They went early on Isaiah Nwokobia in the Round 6 slot, and the value did not follow. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick218 Rnd7 Eric O'Neill
They reached a country mile for Eric O'Neill at the 218th pick, and the board is aghast. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick220 Rnd7 George Gumbs Jr.
George Gumbs Jr. in No. 220 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick238 Rnd7 Barion Brown
Value said wait; Barion Brown in the 238th overall pick says they were not listening. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick242 Rnd7 Bryce Foster
They paid a round early for Bryce Foster in Round 7, Pick 26, more than the board wanted. It fills a real need, too.
Pick247 Rnd7 Fa'alili Fa'amoe
By-the-book stuff, Fa'alili Fa'amoe at the Round 7 slot squarely in line with his ranking. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
