Draft Grade — Browns
Overall B-
ValueC+ NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
The Browns kept it disciplined and banked a B-.

Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Browns spent Round 5, Pick 9 on Eric McAlister, a name the board had a full 28 spots lower. No fireworks, but a solid B-.

For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. The Rutledge pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged.

Job largely done: edge rusher settled and 5 of 9 of the wish list covered. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.

Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick6 Rnd1 David Bailey
David Bailey in pick No. 6 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick24 Rnd1 Caleb Lomu
In Round 1, Pick 24 they get protection for the quarterback, reach and all.
Pick39 Rnd2 Ja'Kobi Lane
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Ja'Kobi Lane. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick70 Rnd3 Emmanuel McNeil-Warren
By-the-book stuff, Emmanuel McNeil-Warren at the 70th pick squarely in line with his ranking. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick107 Rnd4 Daylen Everette
A reasonable price with a little left over, Daylen Everette in pick 107. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick140 Rnd5 Keylan Rutledge
Keylan Rutledge at the Round 5 slot is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. The roster fit checks out.
Pick145 Rnd5 Max Iheanachor
They paid sticker price for Max Iheanachor in the 145th pick, and that is fine. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick148 Rnd5 Eric McAlister
This one needs a full-page explanation: Eric McAlister in the Round 5 slot, miles early. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick205 Rnd6 De'Zhaun Stribling
De'Zhaun Stribling at slot 205 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick248 Rnd7 Micah Morris
They left a pile of value on the table to take Micah Morris this early at No. 248. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
