The Titans cashed the board's mistake on Lane: C.

The board owed the Titans one, and it paid up: Ja'Kobi Lane, the No. 67 name on the board, sitting there at Round 4, Pick 1 like a gift left on the doorstep.

The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. The Scott pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with edge rusher still on the board. They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it.

Stockpiling next year's capital is patient, if unglamorous, asset work.

So much rides on Arvell Reese that the real verdict is a season or two away.
