Draft Grade — Panthers
Overall B+
ValueA+ NeedB+ TradesB+ FutureB-
The Panthers cashed the board's mistake on Nussmeier: B+.

Somebody in the 235th overall pick was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Panthers sat still while Garrett Nussmeier, the No. 78 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B+.

They punted on safety, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. They squeezed a little extra out of every move they made. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 7 of 9 of the wish list covered.

The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.

A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.

Pick Analysis
Pick21 Rnd1 Arvell Reese
In No. 21 they get a three-down second-level presence, outstanding value to boot. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick51 Rnd2 David Bailey
A top-tier edge rusher at a bargain, David Bailey in Round 2, Pick 19, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick76 Rnd3 Kenyon Sadiq
A tight end of that caliber at pick 76 is the definition of value, full stop. The roster fit checks out.
Pick83 Rnd3 Sonny Styles
Sonny Styles in slot 83 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick119 Rnd4 Spencer Fano
Steal is underselling it; Spencer Fano at the 119th pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick135 Rnd4 Kayden McDonald
Kayden McDonald in the Round 4 slot is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick156 Rnd5 Jermod McCoy
They barely believed it either: Jermod McCoy still on the board at the 156th overall pick. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick157 Rnd5 Jordyn Tyson
The board fumbled Jordyn Tyson all the way to pick No. 157, and they scooped it up. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick175 Rnd5 Connor Lew
You do not let an offensive lineman like Connor Lew reach pick No. 175 and blink. They did not. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick178 Rnd5 Chase Bisontis
Taking Chase Bisontis in slot 178 is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick198 Rnd6 Jalon Kilgore
Jalon Kilgore at the 198th pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick235 Rnd7 Garrett Nussmeier
They will replay Garrett Nussmeier at pick 235 for years; that is how good the value is. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
