FutureB
The Cardinals lost the trade table, and the D tells the story. You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Cardinals did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high. A D that will need time and luck to look better.
Hughes has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Harbor.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, edge rusher very much included.
Pick Analysis
Pick8
Rnd1
Francis Mauigoa
In slot 8 they get a long-term starter on the line. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick39
Rnd2
Jake Slaughter
They paid sticker price for Jake Slaughter in No. 39, and that is fine. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick73
Rnd3
John Mateer
John Mateer in Round 3, Pick 9 is fair value, right on his grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick77
Rnd3
Brian Parker II
No drama and no debate, Brian Parker II went about where he belonged in the 77th overall pick. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick105
Rnd4
Nyck Harbor
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Nyck Harbor in pick 105. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick112
Rnd4
Emmanuel McNeil-Warren
They took Emmanuel McNeil-Warren at par in the 112th pick, which is nothing to complain about. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick144
Rnd5
Jacob Rodriguez
They reached into another round for Jacob Rodriguez, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It fills a real need, too.
Pick188
Rnd6
Makhi Hughes
Makhi Hughes at the Round 6 slot is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick222
Rnd7
Trey Zuhn III
The board had cheaper options than Trey Zuhn III at the 222nd overall pick, and it noticed. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
