Draft Grade — Raiders

The Raiders finally solved quarterback, and it carried them to a B-.

The Raiders spent the pick that matters most on Fernando Mendoza, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.

The cost of the Gentry reach is exactly the players who went right after him. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Slaughter. The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer.

Cornerback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick1 Rnd1 Fernando Mendoza
In Round 1, Pick 1 they get a passer to set the clock by at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick36 Rnd2 Emmanuel Pregnon
By-the-book stuff, Emmanuel Pregnon at slot 36 squarely in line with his ranking. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick67 Rnd3 Jake Slaughter
The board fumbled Jake Slaughter all the way to pick No. 67, and they scooped it up. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick102 Rnd4 Julian Neal
They will replay Julian Neal at No. 102 for years; that is how good the value is. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick117 Rnd4 Bishop Fitzgerald
They did well to land Bishop Fitzgerald in the 117th pick, just ahead of his grade. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick134 Rnd4 Eric Rivers
Eric Rivers at the Round 4 slot is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick174 Rnd5 Rayshaun Benny
Rayshaun Benny in the 174th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick180 Rnd6 Raylen Wilson
They went early on Raylen Wilson in pick 180, and the value did not follow. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick183 Rnd6 Nolan Rucci
They talked themselves into Nolan Rucci at the Round 6 slot, and the board did not agree. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick219 Rnd7 Eric Gentry
Eric Gentry at No. 219 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
