Draft Grade — Vikings
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
More right than wrong for the Vikings, and a B- to prove it.

You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Vikings did exactly that with Trevor Lauck in pick No. 49.

The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer. However the rest shakes out, Frazier at that price is a win they earned. They went 6 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.

Pick Analysis
Pick18 Rnd1 Nate Frazier
Value with a capital V on Nate Frazier in the 18th pick, a genuine coup. The roster fit checks out.
Pick49 Rnd2 Trevor Lauck
Trevor Lauck at slot 49 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick82 Rnd3 A'Mauri Washington
No edge and no loss on A'Mauri Washington in No. 82; it is a wash and a sensible one. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick97 Rnd3 Sam Leavitt
They took Sam Leavitt at par in the 97th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick161 Rnd5 Mark Nabou Jr.
No drama and no debate, Mark Nabou Jr. went about where he belonged in the Round 5 slot. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick194 Rnd6 James Smith
They paid sticker price for James Smith in Round 6, Pick 15, and that is fine. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick234 Rnd7 Johntay Cook
Johntay Cook at pick 234 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick240 Rnd7 King Mack
King Mack in No. 240 is fair value, right on his grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
