0987 DRAFTING FOR THEJets
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Jets
Overall
B-
ValueB-
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
No fireworks, just a tidy B- for the Jets. The Jets put a flag in the ground for Patrick Payton, 72 picks before anyone else would have, and the value took the hit.
That running back hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Thieneman at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.
They left with quarterback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick Analysis
Pick2
Rnd1
Arvell Reese
In the 2nd pick they get a three-down second-level presence. Need was not the driver here.
Pick16
Rnd1
Makai Lemon
In the Round 1 slot they get a matchup problem out wide at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick33
Rnd2
Colton Hood
Colton Hood at pick 33 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the cornerback. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick44
Rnd2
Dillon Thieneman
Dillon Thieneman is a better player than Round 2, Pick 12 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick103
Rnd4
Keylan Rutledge
Value said wait; Keylan Rutledge in pick No. 103 says they were not listening. It fills a real need, too.
Pick175
Rnd5
Patrick Payton
Patrick Payton in slot 175 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick178
Rnd5
Oscar Delp
Oscar Delp in the 178th overall pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick192
Rnd6
Pat Coogan
Pat Coogan in the Round 6 slot is fair value, right on his grade. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick206
Rnd6
Zxavian Harris
The board had cheaper options than Zxavian Harris at pick 206, and it noticed. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick209
Rnd6
Jeff Caldwell
They went early on Jeff Caldwell in slot 209, and the value did not follow. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick218
Rnd7
Jalen Huskey
A reach for Jalen Huskey in the 218th pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick242
Rnd7
Cole Payton
A reasonable price with a little left over, Cole Payton in pick No. 242. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
