Overall B-

More right than wrong for the Patriots, and a B- to prove it.

Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Patriots spent the 247th overall pick on Marvin Jones Jr., a name most had 91 spots down the list. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.

That is a cornerback worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up. Edge rusher was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.

Pick Analysis
Pick31 Rnd1 Sonny Styles
Nice patience on Sonny Styles, who had no business lasting to No. 31. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick63 Rnd2 Emmanuel Pregnon
They will replay Emmanuel Pregnon at the 63rd pick for years; that is how good the value is. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick95 Rnd3 Elijah Sarratt
Steal is underselling it; Elijah Sarratt at pick 95 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick125 Rnd4 Dametrious Crownover
Dametrious Crownover at pick No. 125 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick131 Rnd4 Eli Raridon
A tidy little value on Eli Raridon in Round 4, Pick 31, a step better than break-even. It fills a real need, too.
Pick169 Rnd5 Matt Gulbin
They went early on Matt Gulbin in the 169th overall pick, and the value did not follow. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick189 Rnd6 Domani Jackson
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, Domani Jackson in the 189th overall pick, plain and simple. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick200 Rnd6 Oscar Delp
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Oscar Delp at slot 200 is the proof. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick207 Rnd6 Davison Igbinosun
They robbed the room for Davison Igbinosun here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Pick210 Rnd6 Jimmy Rolder
A reach for Jimmy Rolder in No. 210; a little patience would have been rewarded. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Pick247 Rnd7 Marvin Jones Jr.
They talked themselves into Marvin Jones Jr. at the 247th pick, and the board did not agree. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
