Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall B-
ValueB NeedB TradesB- FutureC
Good, not great, for the Cowboys: B-.

The Haynes King selection is the head-turner. The Cowboys reached 86 spots for him, and it will define how this weekend is remembered. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.

The Hurst steal is the beam this whole class leans on. The tight end hole is the one line item this class does not answer.

Adding Kevin Zeitler by trade rounds out the weekend beyond the rookies. They are betting the present roster is worth a lighter draft next spring.

Good work on the whole, with tight end the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick13 Rnd1 Arvell Reese
In No. 13 they get a three-down second-level presence at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick20 Rnd1 Caleb Downs
In the Round 1 slot they get a downhill hitter at safety, outstanding value to boot. More want than need.
Pick55 Rnd2 D'Angelo Ponds
A clean, defensible pick in Round 2, Pick 23 with a little surplus value in D'Angelo Ponds. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick69 Rnd3 Lee Hunter
Lee Hunter at pick No. 69 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick86 Rnd3 Caden Curry
Caden Curry at slot 86 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick103 Rnd4 Keylan Rutledge
Keylan Rutledge at the 103rd pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick112 Rnd4 Nicholas Singleton
A tidy bit of business in pick 112, where Nicholas Singleton graded well above the range. The roster fit checks out.
Pick150 Rnd5 Louis Moore
They paid sticker price for Louis Moore in slot 150, and that is fine. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Pick167 Rnd5 Kaleb Proctor
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Kaleb Proctor. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick177 Rnd5 Noah Whittington
Noah Whittington at the 177th overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick205 Rnd6 Eric McAlister
They read the board right and Eric McAlister was the payoff at Round 6, Pick 26. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick215 Rnd6 George Gumbs Jr.
They left a pile of value on the table to take George Gumbs Jr. this early at the 215th pick. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick221 Rnd7 Ted Hurst
A wide receiver of that caliber at pick No. 221 is the definition of value, full stop. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick225 Rnd7 Haynes King
Haynes King at the Round 7 slot is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
