Draft Grade — Colts
Overall B
ValueB- NeedB TradesB+ FutureB+
The Colts did the meat-and-potatoes work well: B.

The Colts clearly saw something nobody else did in Jalen Thompson, taking him 78 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.

The Green steal is the beam this whole class leans on. For all the activity, tight end went untouched, which is hard to explain.

They will answer for taking cornerback early while tight end and offensive lineman went begging. Small wins on the phones, but wins all the same.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.

Pick Analysis
Pick82 Rnd3 A.J. Harris
The board had A.J. Harris higher than the 82nd pick, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick115 Rnd4 Sam Leavitt
Sam Leavitt in No. 115 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick117 Rnd4 D'Angelo Ponds
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, D'Angelo Ponds adds a cornerback and leaves tight end and offensive lineman untouched.
Pick119 Rnd4 Austin Romaine
They reached a country mile for Austin Romaine at the Round 4 slot, and the board is aghast. It fills a real need, too.
Pick158 Rnd5 Chase Roberts
Chase Roberts in pick 158 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick160 Rnd5 DeMonte Capehart
Nothing to complain about; DeMonte Capehart went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick178 Rnd5 Isaac Smith
Isaac Smith at pick No. 178 is money in the bank, a safety taken below his worth. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick215 Rnd6 Princewill Umanmielen
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Princewill Umanmielen well ahead of where he belonged. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick225 Rnd7 Jalen Thompson
Jalen Thompson at slot 225 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick229 Rnd7 Jahiem White
A tidy little value on Jahiem White in the Round 7 slot, a step better than break-even. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick233 Rnd7 Taylen Green
Taylen Green in No. 233 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick250 Rnd7 Malik Hartford
A slide stopped in Round 7, Pick 35, with Malik Hartford worth more than the price. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
