FutureA+
The Cardinals turned the phones into found money: A-. When the story of this class is written, it opens with Le'Veon Moss at Round 5, Pick 16, a reach of 59 spots that the board flatly disagrees with. A near-flawless weekend of work, and a A- to cap it.
They banked enough surplus on Haulcy to cover a lot of smaller sins. The phones were where this weekend was really won. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.
Joe Alt gives the group a proven body among the projects.
Few war rooms will sleep better than this one tonight.
Pick Analysis
Pick18
Rnd1
Arvell Reese
In pick No. 18 they get a downhill thumper at linebacker, and a steal at that. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick47
Rnd2
Anthony Hill Jr.
Anthony Hill Jr. slipping to pick 47 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick55
Rnd2
Keith Abney II
Keith Abney II in slot 55 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick65
Rnd3
Chase Bisontis
They read the board right and Chase Bisontis was the payoff at No. 65. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick79
Rnd3
A.J. Haulcy
Taking A.J. Haulcy in the Round 3 slot is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick104
Rnd4
Ja'Kobi Lane
Ja'Kobi Lane at the 104th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick143
Rnd5
Eli Raridon
Eli Raridon at No. 143 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick156
Rnd5
Le'Veon Moss
Value said wait; Le'Veon Moss in the 156th pick says they were not listening. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick209
Rnd6
Taylen Green
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Taylen Green at slot 209. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick214
Rnd6
Chase Roberts
A straight-up fair deal on Chase Roberts at pick 214, value and slot in agreement. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick217
Rnd7
Landon Robinson
No drama and no debate, Landon Robinson went about where he belonged in pick No. 217. It fills a real need, too.
Pick237
Rnd7
Bryce Foster
A wild overpay on Bryce Foster in the Round 7 slot, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
