Draft Grade — Chiefs
Overall B+
ValueB NeedB TradesA+ FutureB-
The Chiefs let Coleman fall and pounced. Final grade: B+.

The Chiefs did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Jonah Coleman fell into the 148th pick.

They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through tight end.

Coogan has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. The Chiefs indulged a want in Stukes while a need in tight end and edge rusher stayed open.

A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick12 Rnd1 Kadyn Proctor
In the 12th overall pick they get a long-term starter on the line at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick29 Rnd1 Kayden McDonald
In the 29th pick they get a run-stuffing presence up front, outstanding value to boot. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick40 Rnd2 D'Angelo Ponds
They took D'Angelo Ponds at par in Round 2, Pick 8, which is nothing to complain about. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick74 Rnd3 Bryce Lance
Bryce Lance in pick 74 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick92 Rnd3 Treydan Stukes
A surprising call. With tight end and edge rusher still to address, they spent the Round 3 slot on Treydan Stukes, a cornerback they were not short of.
Pick109 Rnd4 A.J. Haulcy
A.J. Haulcy at slot 109 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick115 Rnd4 De'Zhaun Stribling
A tidy little value on De'Zhaun Stribling in pick No. 115, a step better than break-even. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick148 Rnd5 Jonah Coleman
They will replay Jonah Coleman at No. 148 for years; that is how good the value is. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick152 Rnd5 Hezekiah Masses
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Hezekiah Masses in the Round 5 slot. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick169 Rnd5 Kaleb Elarms-Orr
They jumped the gun on Kaleb Elarms-Orr, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick176 Rnd5 Pat Coogan
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Pat Coogan well ahead of where he belonged. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick210 Rnd6 Cole Payton
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Cole Payton at No. 210. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick211 Rnd6 Zavion Thomas
A premium they did not need to pay, Zavion Thomas a notch or two before his time. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
