Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall D-
ValueB NeedB- TradesF FutureB-
Hill Jr. should have been long gone. The Commanders pounced, and earned a D-.

The Commanders lost the trade war and it was not close, handing partners the better end again and again.

Reaching for Zuhn III left real value on the table behind him. A whole weekend of picks and cornerback is somehow still a want.

Getting Hill Jr. where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.

Bottom line, they will be counting on several picks to beat their grades.

Pick Analysis
Pick7 Rnd1 Caleb Downs
In pick No. 7 they get a ballhawk on the back end. Need was not the driver here.
Pick65 Rnd3 Anthony Hill Jr.
They robbed the room for Anthony Hill Jr. here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick71 Rnd3 Domonique Orange
They paid sticker price for Domonique Orange in the 71st overall pick, and that is fine. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick104 Rnd4 Mike Washington Jr.
They took Mike Washington Jr. at par in pick 104, which is nothing to complain about. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick145 Rnd5 Nate Boerkircher
A market-rate tight end, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Nate Boerkircher. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick185 Rnd6 Ted Hurst
Nice patience on Ted Hurst, who had no business lasting to Round 6, Pick 6. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick196 Rnd6 Pat Coogan
Pat Coogan in the Round 6 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick223 Rnd7 Trey Zuhn III
They reached into another round for Trey Zuhn III, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
