Lawson should have been long gone. The Colts pounced, and earned a B-. The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Colts watched Deontae Lawson slide 24 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. The bottom line is a respectable B-.
The Colts indulged a want in Everette while a need in quarterback, interior defensive lineman and other spots stayed open. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick Analysis
Pick47
Rnd2
Keith Abney II
Keith Abney II at slot 47 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick78
Rnd3
Deontae Lawson
Deontae Lawson in pick 78 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick113
Rnd4
Daylen Everette
A want over a need in No. 113: Daylen Everette adds a cornerback while quarterback, interior defensive lineman and other spots keeps waiting.
Pick154
Rnd5
Tanner Koziol
A clean, defensible pick in the Round 5 slot with a little surplus value in Tanner Koziol. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick216
Rnd6
Desmond Reid
Good price on Desmond Reid in the 216th overall pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick230
Rnd7
Hykeem Williams
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Hykeem Williams. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick253
Rnd7
Alex Harkey
Alex Harkey at Round 7, Pick 37 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
