Draft Grade — Chiefs
Overall

FutureB-
Nwaiwu should have been long gone. The Chiefs pounced, and earned a C+. You could see the war room lean forward. Febechi Nwaiwu at Round 6, Pick 36 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did.
Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. They went 6 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
If Spencer Fano and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.
Pick Analysis
Pick9
Rnd1
Spencer Fano
In the 9th overall pick they get a building block for the line. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick40
Rnd2
Emmanuel Pregnon
By-the-book stuff, Emmanuel Pregnon at the Round 2 slot squarely in line with his ranking. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick74
Rnd3
Jonah Coleman
A tidy little value on Jonah Coleman in pick 74, a step better than break-even. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick84
Rnd3
Zachariah Branch
A reasonable price with a little left over, Zachariah Branch in the 84th pick. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick110
Rnd4
Caden Curry
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Caden Curry. It fills a real need, too.
Pick158
Rnd5
Gracen Halton
They will replay Gracen Halton at No. 158 for years; that is how good the value is. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick176
Rnd5
Treydan Stukes
Treydan Stukes in pick No. 176 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick215
Rnd6
Febechi Nwaiwu
Febechi Nwaiwu in slot 215 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick222
Rnd7
Bud Clark
The board had Bud Clark higher than the 222nd overall pick, and the safety fell to them anyway. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick226
Rnd7
Jaren Kanak
A straight-up fair deal on Jaren Kanak at pick No. 226, value and slot in agreement. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick236
Rnd7
Eli Heidenreich
They took Eli Heidenreich at par in slot 236, which is nothing to complain about. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
