Draft Grade — Chiefs
Overall
B-
ValueB-
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Chiefs kept it disciplined and banked a B-. Nobody else had Cole Payton anywhere near the Round 5 slot. The Chiefs did, by 54 spots, and that gap is the whole story.
The Dennis-Sutton steal is the beam this whole class leans on. The Chiefs indulged a want in Stukes while a need in interior defensive lineman and linebacker stayed open. They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the interior defensive lineman spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick9
Rnd1
Mansoor Delane
In the Round 1 slot they get a sticky cover corner at fair value.
Pick29
Rnd1
Omar Cooper Jr.
In the 29th overall pick they get a home-run threat at receiver at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick40
Rnd2
Blake Miller
Blake Miller at Round 2, Pick 8 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick74
Rnd3
Treydan Stukes
Of all the spots to shop, they chose cornerback. Treydan Stukes in slot 74 leaves interior defensive lineman and linebacker for later.
Pick109
Rnd4
Dani Dennis-Sutton
The board fumbled Dani Dennis-Sutton all the way to pick 109, and they scooped it up. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick148
Rnd5
Cole Payton
This one needs a full-page explanation: Cole Payton in No. 148, miles early. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick169
Rnd5
Tanner Koziol
Tanner Koziol at No. 169 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick176
Rnd5
Febechi Nwaiwu
Febechi Nwaiwu in the Round 5 slot is fair value, right on his grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick210
Rnd6
Kaelon Black
The board had cheaper options than Kaelon Black at Round 6, Pick 29, and it noticed. A need, and now a little less of one.
