Draft Grade — Dolphins
Overall D-
ValueB NeedB- TradesF FutureB-
The phones sank the Dolphins this weekend: D-.

The trade table was where it all came apart. The Dolphins shipped out far more than they hauled back, and no amount of spin dresses up the bill. Too much went sideways, and the D- is the honest tally.

It is not that Haulcy is a bad player; it is that the Dolphins had louder needs to answer first. They will need Branch to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

However the rest shakes out, Haulcy at that price is a win they earned.

In short, the board sent warnings, and they will be hoping it was wrong.

Pick Analysis
Pick11 Rnd1 Caleb Downs
In No. 11 they get an enforcer at safety, and a steal at that. Need was not the driver here.
Pick43 Rnd2 Sonny Styles
A reasonable price with a little left over, Sonny Styles in the 43rd pick. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick51 Rnd2 Emmanuel Pregnon
Emmanuel Pregnon at the Round 2 slot is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick75 Rnd3 A.J. Haulcy
A surprising call. With edge rusher, interior defensive lineman and other spots still to address, they spent pick 75 on A.J. Haulcy, a safety they were not short of.
Pick87 Rnd3 Omar Cooper Jr.
Omar Cooper Jr. at slot 87 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick90 Rnd3 Zachariah Branch
A big swing on Zachariah Branch at Round 3, Pick 26, well ahead of any board in the building. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick111 Rnd4 Trinidad Chambliss
No edge and no loss on Trinidad Chambliss in pick No. 111; it is a wash and a sensible one. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick119 Rnd4 Keylan Rutledge
They took Keylan Rutledge at par in the 119th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick149 Rnd5 Davison Igbinosun
Davison Igbinosun at slot 149 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick227 Rnd7 Jack Velling
Jack Velling in pick 227 is fair value, right on his grade. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
