Draft Grade — Ravens
Overall B-
ValueB NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
Nothing loud, just a tidy B- for the Ravens.

There is reaching, and then there is Roman Hemby at the Round 7 slot. The Ravens jumped the board by 30 and dared it to prove them wrong. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.

That Scott pick is the receipt they will wave around later. They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it.

They went 6 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for. Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.

A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick14 Rnd1 Carnell Tate
Carnell Tate at No. 14 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick45 Rnd2 Emmanuel Pregnon
They let Emmanuel Pregnon come to them and pounced at Round 2, Pick 13. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick80 Rnd3 Keionte Scott
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Keionte Scott at pick No. 80 is the proof. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick115 Rnd4 Jaishawn Barham
They took Jaishawn Barham at par in the 115th pick, which is nothing to complain about. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick152 Rnd5 Marlin Klein
Marlin Klein in pick 152 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick160 Rnd5 Zane Durant
A reach for Zane Durant in the 160th overall pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick172 Rnd5 DJ Campbell
DJ Campbell at the Round 5 slot is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick173 Rnd5 Xavier Nwankpa
They paid sticker price for Xavier Nwankpa in pick 173, and that is fine. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick249 Rnd7 Roman Hemby
A big swing on Roman Hemby at No. 249, well ahead of any board in the building. It fills a real need, too.
Pick252 Rnd7 Raheem Anderson II
They reached into another round for Raheem Anderson II, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
