Kiyoshi Sabers DRAFTING FOR THEEagles
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Eagles
Overall
B-
ValueC+
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Eagles kept it disciplined and banked a B-. The tape said wait; the Eagles did not. Patrick Payton went at the 180th overall pick, a good 45 picks before the board was ready.
That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Getting Rivers where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.
Job largely done: cornerback settled and 8 of 9 of the wish list covered.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick Analysis
Pick30
Rnd1
Mansoor Delane
In pick 30 they get a potential shutdown corner at a price that makes it sweeter. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick61
Rnd2
Max Klare
A reach for Max Klare in the 61st pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick67
Rnd3
Jaeden Roberts
Jaeden Roberts at the Round 3 slot is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick94
Rnd3
Kenyatta Jackson Jr.
They reached into another round for Kenyatta Jackson Jr., and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick98
Rnd3
Nicholas Singleton
They took Nicholas Singleton at par in Round 3, Pick 34, which is nothing to complain about. It fills a real need, too.
Pick129
Rnd4
Aaron Graves
A wild overpay on Aaron Graves in No. 129, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick137
Rnd4
Bray Hubbard
A straight-up fair deal on Bray Hubbard at the Round 4 slot, value and slot in agreement. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick151
Rnd5
Max Iheanachor
They liked Max Iheanachor enough to skip the value, taking him in Round 5, Pick 11. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick161
Rnd5
Eric Rivers
They read the board right and Eric Rivers was the payoff at slot 161. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick180
Rnd5
Patrick Payton
Patrick Payton at the 180th pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick210
Rnd6
Trey Zuhn III
This one needs a full-page explanation: Trey Zuhn III in pick 210, miles early. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
