FutureB-
A solid, sensible weekend for the Eagles: B-. The rest of the league had time to spare on Patrick Payton; the Eagles did not wait, grabbing him 56 spots ahead at the 168th overall pick. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.
That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. They banked enough surplus on Wheatley to cover a lot of smaller sins. They went 8 of 9 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick Analysis
Pick32
Rnd1
Kenyon Sadiq
In Round 1, Pick 32 they get a red-zone target to build around. A real need, handled.
Pick59
Rnd2
Olaivavega Ioane
A reasonable price with a little left over, Olaivavega Ioane in the 59th pick. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick65
Rnd3
Zion Young
Zion Young at slot 65 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick90
Rnd3
Nicholas Singleton
Nicholas Singleton in the Round 3 slot is fair value, right on his grade. The roster fit checks out.
Pick96
Rnd3
D'Angelo Ponds
They paid up for D'Angelo Ponds at pick 96 when waiting would have done the job. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick98
Rnd3
Zakee Wheatley
Nice patience on Zakee Wheatley, who had no business lasting to No. 98. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick125
Rnd4
DJ McKinney
They took DJ McKinney at par in the 125th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick132
Rnd4
Zane Durant
Zane Durant at pick 132 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick135
Rnd4
Max Iheanachor
A big swing on Max Iheanachor at Round 4, Pick 35, well ahead of any board in the building. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick157
Rnd5
Aaron Anderson
Aaron Anderson in slot 157 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick168
Rnd5
Patrick Payton
They reached a country mile for Patrick Payton at No. 168, and the board is aghast. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick207
Rnd6
Trey Zuhn III
Trey Zuhn III at pick No. 207 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick213
Rnd6
Roderick Kearney
Roderick Kearney in the 213th pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
