The Eagles let McDonald fall and pounced. Final grade: C. Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Eagles were there to profit. Kayden McDonald, the No. 33 name on the board, should have been long gone before the 235th pick. A weekend of give and take that grades a C.
The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. Cornerback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
Hit on Keldric Faulk and the swing picks, and this ages a lot better than it grades today.
Pick Analysis
Pick20
Rnd1
Keldric Faulk
In pick 20 they get juice off the edge, outstanding value to boot. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick67
Rnd3
Jermod McCoy
Somehow Jermod McCoy was still sitting there in the Round 3 slot, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick94
Rnd3
David Bailey
They barely believed it either: David Bailey still on the board at No. 94. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick98
Rnd3
Anthony Hill Jr.
Anthony Hill Jr. in Round 3, Pick 34 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick116
Rnd4
Carnell Tate
Carnell Tate at slot 116 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick129
Rnd4
LT Overton
The board fumbled LT Overton all the way to the 129th overall pick, and they scooped it up. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick137
Rnd4
Mansoor Delane
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, Mansoor Delane in the 137th pick, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick153
Rnd5
Jordyn Tyson
You do not let a wide receiver like Jordyn Tyson reach pick No. 153 and blink. They did not. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick156
Rnd5
Dante Moore
Steal is underselling it; Dante Moore at No. 156 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick172
Rnd5
Kenyon Sadiq
Circle this one: Kenyon Sadiq at pick 172 is a fall that decides a draft. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick180
Rnd5
Spencer Fano
They robbed the room for Spencer Fano here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick197
Rnd6
Cashius Howell
Taking Cashius Howell in pick No. 197 is close to grand larceny; an edge rusher that good had no business lasting this long. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick210
Rnd6
Jonah Coleman
A running back of that caliber at the Round 6 slot is the definition of value, full stop. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick215
Rnd6
Jake Slaughter
Jake Slaughter at the 215th pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick235
Rnd7
Kayden McDonald
They will replay Kayden McDonald at the 235th overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick238
Rnd7
Sonny Styles
Sonny Styles in slot 238 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick241
Rnd7
Ja'Kobi Lane
Ja'Kobi Lane in pick No. 241 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick242
Rnd7
Connor Lew
Connor Lew at pick 242 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick245
Rnd7
Tyreak Sapp
Circle this one: Tyreak Sapp at Round 7, Pick 30 is a fall that decides a draft. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick247
Rnd7
Trevor Goosby
The board fumbled Trevor Goosby all the way to the 247th overall pick, and they scooped it up. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick249
Rnd7
Romello Height
Romello Height at the 249th pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick250
Rnd7
Taurean York
A linebacker of that caliber at No. 250 is the definition of value, full stop. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Pick253
Rnd7
Germie Bernard
Germie Bernard in slot 253 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick254
Rnd7
Michael Taaffe
You do not let a safety like Michael Taaffe reach the Round 7 slot and blink. They did not. The roster fit checks out.
Pick255
Rnd7
Colton Hood
Colton Hood in the 255th pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick257
Rnd7
Deontae Lawson
Deontae Lawson in No. 257 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
