Draft Grade — Rams
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
Mateer is the Rams' new face under center. Grade: B-.

The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Rams spent their marquee pick on John Mateer, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.

Robertson falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. The Chaplin pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.

Pick Analysis
Pick10 Rnd1 Jermod McCoy
They took Jermod McCoy at par in slot 10, which is nothing to complain about. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick27 Rnd1 John Mateer
They liked John Mateer enough to skip the value, taking him in Round 1, Pick 27. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick59 Rnd2 Xavier Chaplin
A wild overpay on Xavier Chaplin in the 59th pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick91 Rnd3 A.J. Haulcy
A.J. Haulcy is a better player than the Round 3 slot suggests; smart patience, rewarded. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick141 Rnd5 Demond Claiborne
Demond Claiborne at the 141st overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick167 Rnd5 Jaden Greathouse
Jaden Greathouse at No. 167 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick191 Rnd6 Lee Hunter
A conviction pick on Lee Hunter at pick 191 that the board grades a round light. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick205 Rnd6 Josh Moten
Josh Moten at pick No. 205 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the cornerback. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Pick227 Rnd7 Sawyer Robertson
Sawyer Robertson at the 227th overall pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick247 Rnd7 Brett Norfleet
They jumped the gun on Brett Norfleet, taking him earlier than his grade liked. The roster fit checks out.
