FutureB
A respectable, level-headed haul for the Lions: B-. Call it belief, call it a gut call, but Nick Barrett at the Round 7 slot is 37 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline.
They banked enough surplus on Baynes to cover a lot of smaller sins. They will regret leaving linebacker for another day if the season turns on it. They left with cornerback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick28
Rnd1
Gennings Dunker
In the 28th pick they get a blindside protector, though the board says they badly overpaid. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick50
Rnd2
Derrick Moore
A reach for Derrick Moore in pick 50; a little patience would have been rewarded. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick59
Rnd2
Jake Slaughter
Good price on Jake Slaughter in Round 2, Pick 27, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick118
Rnd4
Jalon Kilgore
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jalon Kilgore. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick128
Rnd4
Bud Clark
Fair-plus on Bud Clark, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick155
Rnd5
Nate Boerkircher
Nate Boerkircher at the 155th overall pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick186
Rnd6
Marlin Klein
A tidy bit of business in pick 186, where Marlin Klein graded well above the range. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick203
Rnd6
Kobe Baynes
Kobe Baynes at pick No. 203 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick212
Rnd6
Zxavian Harris
No edge and no loss on Zxavian Harris in the 212th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick222
Rnd7
Nick Barrett
This one needs a full-page explanation: Nick Barrett in slot 222, miles early. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
