Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B-
ValueC NeedA- TradesB- FutureB-
More right than wrong for the 49ers, and a B- to prove it.

The 49ers torched the value chart for Malachi Lawrence, taking him 56 spots sooner than anyone had him slotted. The bottom line is a respectable B-.

They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it. That is a wide receiver worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. They left with offensive lineman solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.

In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.

Pick Analysis
Pick27 Rnd1 Max Iheanachor
In the Round 1 slot they get a long-term starter on the line, a steep price for the projection. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick63 Rnd2 Omar Cooper Jr.
Nice patience on Omar Cooper Jr., who had no business lasting to slot 63. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick92 Rnd3 Malachi Lawrence
A wild overpay on Malachi Lawrence in the 92nd overall pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick125 Rnd4 Isaiah World
Isaiah World at Round 4, Pick 25 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick127 Rnd4 Bud Clark
Bud Clark at pick No. 127 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick133 Rnd4 Chris McClellan
A clean, defensible pick in the 133rd pick with a little surplus value in Chris McClellan. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick138 Rnd4 Kaytron Allen
They paid sticker price for Kaytron Allen in the Round 4 slot, and that is fine. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick139 Rnd4 Oscar Delp
They talked themselves into Oscar Delp at No. 139, and the board did not agree. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
