Draft Grade — Rams
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
A passer of the future in Mateer, and a B-, for the Rams.

The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Rams spent their marquee pick on John Mateer, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback.

That is a quarterback worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. The Chaplin reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want.

Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.

Pick Analysis
Pick10 Rnd1 Jermod McCoy
In pick 10 they get a lockdown presence outside at fair value. More want than need.
Pick27 Rnd1 John Mateer
In pick No. 27 they get a franchise quarterback, reach and all.
Pick59 Rnd2 Xavier Chaplin
This one needs a full-page explanation: Xavier Chaplin in slot 59, miles early. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick91 Rnd3 A.J. Haulcy
They read the board right and A.J. Haulcy was the payoff at the 91st pick. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick141 Rnd5 Demond Claiborne
Demond Claiborne in the Round 5 slot is fair value, right on his grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick167 Rnd5 Jaden Greathouse
Jaden Greathouse in the 167th overall pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick191 Rnd6 Lee Hunter
They went early on Lee Hunter in Round 6, Pick 13, and the value did not follow. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick205 Rnd6 Josh Moten
Josh Moten in No. 205 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick227 Rnd7 Sawyer Robertson
A quarterback of that caliber at Round 7, Pick 13 is the definition of value, full stop. The roster fit checks out.
Pick247 Rnd7 Brett Norfleet
They jumped the gun on Brett Norfleet, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
