Draft Grade — Jaguars
Overall B-
ValueC+ NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
Best value of the weekend goes to the Jaguars for Allar: B-.

Call it larceny. Drew Allar sat on the board until pick 209, and the Jaguars did not need to be asked twice.

The cost of the Moore reach is exactly the players who went right after him. The Jaguars indulged a want in Saka while a need in interior defensive lineman and cornerback stayed open.

Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick52 Rnd2 Romello Height
A reach on Romello Height in the 52nd overall pick; the board had better options right there. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick83 Rnd3 Drew Shelton
They liked Drew Shelton enough to skip the value, taking him in the 83rd pick. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick86 Rnd3 Ian Strong
Ian Strong at pick No. 86 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick100 Rnd3 Anto Saka
A surprising call. With interior defensive lineman and cornerback still to address, they spent Round 3, Pick 36 on Anto Saka, an edge rusher they were not short of.
Pick120 Rnd4 Derrick Moore
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went edge rusher with Derrick Moore while clear needs at interior defensive lineman and cornerback sat open.
Pick159 Rnd5 Terrance Carter Jr.
Terrance Carter Jr. at No. 159 is money in the bank, a tight end taken below his worth. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick184 Rnd6 Lander Barton
No drama and no debate, Lander Barton went about where he belonged in the Round 6 slot. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick209 Rnd6 Drew Allar
Drew Allar in slot 209 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It fills a real need, too.
Pick233 Rnd7 Khalil Barnes
Khalil Barnes at slot 233 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick236 Rnd7 Roderick Kearney
No edge and no loss on Roderick Kearney in pick 236; it is a wash and a sensible one. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick241 Rnd7 Desmond Reid
A clean, defensible pick in the 241st overall pick with a little surplus value in Desmond Reid. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
