Tackle Ted DRAFTING FOR THE49ers
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall
B
ValueB
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
Nothing loud, just a tidy B for the 49ers. The 49ers spent real capital to be 23 picks early on Max Llewellyn, and the board is going to hold them to it. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
They punted on wide receiver, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Zuhn III at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. Job largely done: offensive lineman settled and 4 of 8 of the wish list covered.
The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick Analysis
Pick27
Rnd1
Olaivavega Ioane
A tidy bit of business in the 27th overall pick, where Olaivavega Ioane graded well above the range. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick58
Rnd2
A.J. Haulcy
A.J. Haulcy slid further than he should have, and the 58th pick is lovely value for the safety. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick127
Rnd4
Jack Endries
Good price on Jack Endries in slot 127, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick133
Rnd4
Max Llewellyn
They reached a country mile for Max Llewellyn at Round 4, Pick 33, and the board is aghast. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick138
Rnd4
Chris McClellan
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Chris McClellan. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick139
Rnd4
Trey Zuhn III
Nice patience on Trey Zuhn III, who had no business lasting to pick No. 139. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
