The Chiefs let Johnson fall into their laps, and walked away with a B. Every other box got a look, but offensive lineman did not. The Chiefs will head to camp with the same hole they walked in with. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.
The Johnson steal is the beam this whole class leans on. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Stockpiling next year's capital is patient, if unglamorous, asset work.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick18
Rnd1
Jeremiyah Love
In pick No. 18 they get a workhorse for the backfield, outstanding value to boot. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick40
Rnd2
Caleb Banks
By-the-book stuff, Caleb Banks at No. 40 squarely in line with his ranking. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick49
Rnd2
Anthony Hill Jr.
The board had Anthony Hill Jr. higher than slot 49, and the linebacker fell to them anyway. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick74
Rnd3
Eli Stowers
They let Eli Stowers come to them and pounced at Round 3, Pick 10. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick109
Rnd4
Emmett Johnson
Steal is underselling it; Emmett Johnson at the 109th pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick146
Rnd5
Domani Jackson
They took Domani Jackson at par in the 146th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick176
Rnd5
Xavier Nwankpa
Nothing to complain about; Xavier Nwankpa went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick194
Rnd6
Dane Key
Dane Key in pick 194 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
