Draft Grade — Vikings
Overall
D+
ValueB-

FutureB
The phones sank the Vikings this weekend: D+. The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Vikings reached some 47 spots for Trey Holly, and value like that does not grow back. Put together, it is a D+.
They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. The Neal pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with edge rusher and interior defensive lineman still on the board.
Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Getting Neal where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.
It is a steep hill from here, and the grade knows it.
Pick Analysis
Pick24
Rnd1
Avieon Terrell
In pick No. 24 they get a potential shutdown corner. Need was not the driver here.
Pick49
Rnd2
Olaivavega Ioane
Olaivavega Ioane at pick 49 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick70
Rnd3
Jadarian Price
They let Jadarian Price come to them and pounced at the 70th pick. It fills a real need, too.
Pick95
Rnd3
Julian Neal
A curious use of the Round 3 slot. Edge rusher and interior defensive lineman needed the pick; a cornerback in Julian Neal did not.
Pick97
Rnd3
Bishop Fitzgerald
A reach for Bishop Fitzgerald in No. 97; a little patience would have been rewarded. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick107
Rnd4
Jack Endries
A tidy bit of business in slot 107, where Jack Endries graded well above the range. The roster fit checks out.
Pick108
Rnd4
Zachariah Branch
Zachariah Branch at the 108th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick112
Rnd4
Trinidad Chambliss
A market-rate quarterback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Trinidad Chambliss. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick150
Rnd5
Pat Coogan
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Pat Coogan well ahead of where he belonged. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick161
Rnd5
Josh Cuevas
A wild overpay on Josh Cuevas in slot 161, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick194
Rnd6
Trey Holly
They reached a country mile for Trey Holly at No. 194, and the board is aghast. A need, and now a little less of one.
