Draft Grade — Dolphins
Overall B+
ValueB+ NeedB- TradesA+ FutureB
The steal of the weekend belongs to the Dolphins and Styles: B+.

Whoever sat across the table from the Dolphins should ask for a receipt. They cleaned the room out, prying loose far more value than they gave up, and it was the quiet MVP of their weekend. It does the job without flash, and the B+ reflects it.

With edge rusher unsolved, spending premium capital on safety is the choice that costs them. They banked enough surplus on Styles to cover a lot of smaller sins. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.

Pick Analysis
Pick18 Rnd1 Arvell Reese
In the Round 1 slot they get a green-dot type in the middle, and a steal at that. A real need, handled.
Pick30 Rnd1 Sonny Styles
In the 30th overall pick they get a sideline-to-sideline linebacker, outstanding value to boot. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick43 Rnd2 Omar Cooper Jr.
Omar Cooper Jr. at No. 43 is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick52 Rnd2 D'Angelo Ponds
Fair-plus on D'Angelo Ponds, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick75 Rnd3 Eli Stowers
Eli Stowers in Round 3, Pick 11 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick87 Rnd3 Michael Taaffe
Nice patience on Michael Taaffe, who had no business lasting to slot 87. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick90 Rnd3 Elijah Sarratt
A slide stopped in the Round 3 slot, with Elijah Sarratt worth more than the price. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick92 Rnd3 Zakee Wheatley
A curious use of the 92nd overall pick. Edge rusher needed the pick; a safety in Zakee Wheatley did not.
Pick94 Rnd3 Sam Hecht
No edge and no loss on Sam Hecht in pick No. 94; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick112 Rnd4 Bryce Lance
A quiet steal in slot 112: Bryce Lance for less than the market said. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick120 Rnd4 Jack Endries
They took Jack Endries at par in No. 120, which is nothing to complain about. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick130 Rnd4 Kaleb Proctor
Kaleb Proctor at Round 4, Pick 30 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick151 Rnd5 Beau Stephens
Beau Stephens in the 151st pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It fills a real need, too.
Pick180 Rnd5 Keagen Trost
They paid sticker price for Keagen Trost in pick 180, and that is fine. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick196 Rnd6 Cole Payton
A straight-up fair deal on Cole Payton at Round 6, Pick 15, value and slot in agreement. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick227 Rnd7 Noah Whittington
A reach on Noah Whittington in the Round 7 slot; the board had better options right there. The roster fit checks out.
Pick238 Rnd7 Jalen Huskey
They paid a round early for Jalen Huskey in the 238th pick, more than the board wanted. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
