Draft Grade — Ravens
Overall B-
ValueC+ NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
More right than wrong for the Ravens, and a B- to prove it.

The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Ravens reached some 29 spots for Patrick Payton, and value like that does not grow back. The bottom line is a respectable B-.

Leaving tight end unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took King.

A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick14 Rnd1 R Mason Thomas
In pick No. 14 they get a bendy edge with upside, reach and all. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick45 Rnd2 Akheem Mesidor
The board had cheaper options than Akheem Mesidor at Round 2, Pick 13, and it noticed. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick80 Rnd3 Skyler Bell
They took Skyler Bell at par in slot 80, which is nothing to complain about. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick115 Rnd4 Jaeden Roberts
Jaeden Roberts at the 115th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick152 Rnd5 Aamil Wagner
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Aamil Wagner. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick160 Rnd5 Zane Durant
A straight-up fair deal on Zane Durant at pick 160, value and slot in agreement. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick172 Rnd5 Patrick Payton
This one needs a full-page explanation: Patrick Payton in slot 172, miles early. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick173 Rnd5 Jermaine Mathews Jr.
They let Jermaine Mathews Jr. come to them and pounced at Round 5, Pick 35. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick249 Rnd7 Rueben Owens II
Good price on Rueben Owens II in pick No. 249, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick252 Rnd7 Haynes King
Nice patience on Haynes King, who had no business lasting to pick 252. The roster fit checks out.
