Draft Grade — Falcons
Overall
B-
ValueB-
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Falcons kept it disciplined and banked a B-. You can draft well and still miss the point. The Falcons did plenty of tidy work and somehow never got around to quarterback, which was the need that mattered most. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
Every board in the league had Hobbs lower, and that gap is the story. Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick48
Rnd2
Keith Abney II
They did well to land Keith Abney II in the Round 2 slot, just ahead of his grade. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick79
Rnd3
Omar Cooper Jr.
Omar Cooper Jr. at Round 3, Pick 15 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick114
Rnd4
Jaishawn Barham
A reasonable price with a little left over, Jaishawn Barham in pick No. 114. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick195
Rnd6
Daevin Hobbs
Daevin Hobbs at the 195th pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick231
Rnd7
PJ Williams
PJ Williams at the 231st overall pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
