Draft Grade — Chargers

Slaughter should have been long gone. The Chargers pounced, and earned a B-.

When a board-topper like Jake Slaughter slides to Round 2, Pick 25, you do not overthink it, and the Chargers did not. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.

They will need Reed-Adams to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. They left with interior defensive lineman solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.

Pick Analysis
Pick25 Rnd1 Arvell Reese
In slot 25 they get a three-down second-level presence, and a steal at that. More want than need.
Pick57 Rnd2 Jake Slaughter
Circle this one: Jake Slaughter at Round 2, Pick 25 is a fall that decides a draft. The roster fit checks out.
Pick89 Rnd3 A'Mauri Washington
A'Mauri Washington at the Round 3 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick126 Rnd4 Ar'maj Reed-Adams
A real head-scratcher, Ar'maj Reed-Adams in the 126th pick is miles ahead of his ranking. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick205 Rnd6 Bud Clark
Bud Clark at pick No. 205 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick212 Rnd6 Trey Zuhn III
Trey Zuhn III in No. 212 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It fills a real need, too.
