Draft Grade — Panthers
Overall D
ValueB+ NeedB TradesF FutureB-
The Panthers won the night they stopped Sapp from sliding. Grade: D.

Nobody else had Duce Robinson anywhere near the 134th overall pick. The Panthers did, by 30 spots, and that gap is the whole story. The process wobbled, and the D is where it lands.

The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. The Sapp value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.

The verdict is not kind, and fairly so; this class has a hill to climb.

Pick Analysis
Pick30 Rnd1 Spencer Fano
In slot 30 they get protection for the quarterback, and a steal at that. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick39 Rnd2 John Mateer
John Mateer at the 39th pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick51 Rnd2 Caleb Banks
A slide stopped in pick No. 51, with Caleb Banks worth more than the price. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick61 Rnd2 Tyreak Sapp
They barely believed it either: Tyreak Sapp still on the board at pick 61. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick72 Rnd3 Eli Stowers
Eli Stowers slipping to the 72nd pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick75 Rnd3 Mansoor Delane
By-the-book stuff, Mansoor Delane at slot 75 squarely in line with his ranking. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick84 Rnd3 Michael Taaffe
Fair-plus on Michael Taaffe, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick89 Rnd3 Sonny Styles
A clean, defensible pick in pick 89 with a little surplus value in Sonny Styles. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick99 Rnd3 Jonah Coleman
Jonah Coleman in Round 3, Pick 35 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. The roster fit checks out.
Pick105 Rnd4 Cayden Green
Cayden Green in pick No. 105 is fair value, right on his grade. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick119 Rnd4 Deion Burks
Deion Burks slid further than he should have, and the Round 4 slot is lovely value for the wide receiver. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick128 Rnd4 Iapani Laloulu
Iapani Laloulu in the 128th overall pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick129 Rnd4 Chase Bisontis
A tidy little value on Chase Bisontis in slot 129, a step better than break-even. It fills a real need, too.
Pick134 Rnd4 Duce Robinson
They talked themselves into Duce Robinson at pick No. 134, and the board did not agree. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick137 Rnd4 Xavier Scott
Xavier Scott at Round 4, Pick 37 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick143 Rnd5 Bud Clark
Good price on Bud Clark in the 143rd pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick147 Rnd5 Bryce Boettcher
Bryce Boettcher in the Round 5 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick153 Rnd5 DeMonte Capehart
A straight-up fair deal on DeMonte Capehart at pick 153, value and slot in agreement. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick173 Rnd5 Le'Veon Moss
A premium they did not need to pay, Le'Veon Moss a notch or two before his time. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
