Draft Grade — Panthers
Overall B
ValueB NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
Nothing loud, just a tidy B for the Panthers.

You can draft well and still miss the point. The Panthers did plenty of tidy work and somehow never got around to edge rusher, which was the need that mattered most. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.

The Styles value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. The cost of the Green reach is exactly the players who went right after him.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.

Pick Analysis
Pick19 Rnd1 Arvell Reese
In the 19th pick they get a green-dot type in the middle, outstanding value to boot. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick51 Rnd2 Sonny Styles
Nice patience on Sonny Styles, who had no business lasting to the Round 2 slot. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick83 Rnd3 Omar Cooper Jr.
Omar Cooper Jr. in slot 83 lands just on the right side of the ledger. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick119 Rnd4 Keylan Rutledge
No drama and no debate, Keylan Rutledge went about where he belonged in pick No. 119. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick156 Rnd5 Taylen Green
Taylen Green in No. 156 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick157 Rnd5 Xavier Nwankpa
They went early on Xavier Nwankpa in the 157th overall pick, and the value did not follow. It fills a real need, too.
Pick198 Rnd6 Trey Zuhn III
They took Trey Zuhn III at par in pick 198, which is nothing to complain about. The roster fit checks out.
Pick235 Rnd7 Ricardo Hallman
Ricardo Hallman in Round 7, Pick 19 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
