Wagner should have been long gone. The Buccaneers pounced, and earned a C. Every swap seemed to tilt away from the Buccaneers, and the value they bled adds up to real damage. Fine in stretches, shaky in others: a C.
Wagner falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain. The Buccaneers indulged a want in Rodriguez while a need in interior defensive lineman, quarterback and other spots stayed open.
They will need Jacas to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
In the end, one you will need a couple of seasons to truly judge.
Pick Analysis
Pick45
Rnd2
CJ Allen
A quiet steal in the Round 2 slot: CJ Allen for less than the market said. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick46
Rnd2
Gabe Jacas
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Gabe Jacas. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick77
Rnd3
Jacob Rodriguez
A curious use of the 77th pick. Interior defensive lineman, quarterback and other spots needed the pick; a linebacker in Jacob Rodriguez did not.
Pick116
Rnd4
Michael Trigg
Michael Trigg in pick No. 116 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick153
Rnd5
Domani Jackson
By-the-book stuff, Domani Jackson at the 153rd overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick193
Rnd6
Aamil Wagner
They barely believed it either: Aamil Wagner still on the board at Round 6, Pick 14. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick229
Rnd7
Jalen Huskey
Jalen Huskey in pick No. 229 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
