Draft Grade — Buccaneers
Overall B-
ValueC+ NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
More right than wrong for the Buccaneers, and a B- to prove it.

The Buccaneers spent real capital to be 87 picks early on Eric Gentry, and the board is going to hold them to it. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.

However the rest shakes out, Bernard at that price is a win they earned. They punted on tight end, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Job largely done: interior defensive lineman settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered.

The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the tight end spot they never got to.

Pick Analysis
Pick16 Rnd1 R Mason Thomas
In No. 16 they get a quarterback's worst nightmare, even if it was a touch early.
Pick47 Rnd2 Trevor Goosby
No drama and no debate, Trevor Goosby went about where he belonged in pick 47. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick78 Rnd3 Germie Bernard
The board fumbled Germie Bernard all the way to the Round 3 slot, and they scooped it up. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick124 Rnd4 Chris Johnson
Value with a capital V on Chris Johnson in the 124th overall pick, a genuine coup. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick154 Rnd5 DeMonte Capehart
They read the board right and DeMonte Capehart was the payoff at slot 154. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick195 Rnd6 Roderick Kearney
A wild overpay on Roderick Kearney in Round 6, Pick 14, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick232 Rnd7 Eric Gentry
They talked themselves into Eric Gentry at slot 232, and the board did not agree. It adds depth where they could use a little.
