Draft Grade — Jaguars
Overall B
ValueC+ NeedB TradesA+ FutureB-
The Jaguars turned the phones into found money: B.

The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Jaguars reached some 96 spots for Keaten Wade, and value like that does not grow back.

They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. The Pavia steal is the beam this whole class leans on. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the interior defensive lineman spot they never got to.

Pick Analysis
Pick64 Rnd2 Eric Rivers
A slide stopped in slot 64, with Eric Rivers worth more than the price. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick74 Rnd3 Jalon Kilgore
No drama and no debate, Jalon Kilgore went about where he belonged in Round 3, Pick 10. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick91 Rnd3 Mansoor Delane
Mansoor Delane at the 91st pick is money in the bank, a cornerback taken below his worth. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick96 Rnd3 Gabe Jacas
A straight-up fair deal on Gabe Jacas at the 96th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick100 Rnd3 Jaeden Roberts
Value with a capital V on Jaeden Roberts in the Round 3 slot, a genuine coup. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick110 Rnd4 Austin Romaine
Austin Romaine at pick No. 110 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It fills a real need, too.
Pick117 Rnd4 Bryce Boettcher
They talked themselves into Bryce Boettcher at Round 4, Pick 15, and the board did not agree. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick132 Rnd4 Josh Moten
A quiet steal in pick No. 132: Josh Moten for less than the market said. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick149 Rnd5 Kage Casey
They paid sticker price for Kage Casey in the Round 5 slot, and that is fine. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick156 Rnd5 John Mateer
John Mateer at pick 156 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the quarterback. The roster fit checks out.
Pick171 Rnd5 Lander Barton
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Lander Barton. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick191 Rnd6 Quinten Joyner
A clean, defensible pick in the 191st pick with a little surplus value in Quinten Joyner. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick195 Rnd6 Jack Velling
Jack Velling in slot 195 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick217 Rnd7 TJ Metcalf
TJ Metcalf at No. 217 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick222 Rnd7 Brett Norfleet
They took Brett Norfleet at par in Round 7, Pick 6, which is nothing to complain about. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick223 Rnd7 J.Michael Sturdivant
J.Michael Sturdivant in pick 223 is fair value, right on his grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick229 Rnd7 Sawyer Robertson
Sawyer Robertson in No. 229 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick230 Rnd7 Marquis Johnson
Marquis Johnson at the Round 7 slot jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick239 Rnd7 Akheem Mesidor
A wild overpay on Akheem Mesidor in slot 239, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Pick243 Rnd7 Keaten Wade
They left a pile of value on the table to take Keaten Wade this early at the 243rd pick. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick245 Rnd7 Jason Henderson
Value said wait; Jason Henderson in the 245th overall pick says they were not listening. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick248 Rnd7 Diego Pavia
The board fumbled Diego Pavia all the way to pick No. 248, and they scooped it up. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
