FutureA
A solid, sensible weekend for the Browns: B. The Jacob Rodriguez pick is the one that will follow the Browns into the fall. They took him 62 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
The Tyson pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The future picks help the war chest more than the win-now roster.
Quarterback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick Analysis
Pick11
Rnd1
Caleb Downs
In slot 11 they get a ballhawk on the back end at a price that makes it sweeter. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick28
Rnd1
Jordyn Tyson
In pick No. 28 they get a weapon on the perimeter, and a steal at that. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick39
Rnd2
Chris Brazzell II
Chris Brazzell II at the 39th pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick70
Rnd3
Jaeden Roberts
A straight-up fair deal on Jaeden Roberts at pick 70, value and slot in agreement. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick107
Rnd4
Jacob Rodriguez
Jacob Rodriguez in the 107th overall pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick139
Rnd5
Blake Miller
Nothing to complain about; Blake Miller went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It fills a real need, too.
Pick144
Rnd5
Trinidad Chambliss
Trinidad Chambliss at No. 144 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick147
Rnd5
Logan Jones
No edge and no loss on Logan Jones in Round 5, Pick 9; it is a wash and a sensible one. The roster fit checks out.
Pick206
Rnd6
Earnest Greene III
Earnest Greene III at the 206th overall pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick227
Rnd7
Dane Key
Dane Key is a better player than the 227th pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick248
Rnd7
Riley Mahlman
A wild overpay on Riley Mahlman in the Round 7 slot, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
