Draft Grade — Browns
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
Larceny in the 39th overall pick lands the Browns a B-, Mendoza and all.

Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Browns were there to profit. Fernando Mendoza, the No. 4 name on the board, should have been long gone before pick 39. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.

They are betting Rodriguez proves the room right and everyone else wrong. The cornerback hole is the one line item this class does not answer.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.

Pick Analysis
Pick6 Rnd1 Carnell Tate
In Round 1, Pick 6 they get a go-to option on the outside. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick28 Rnd1 Caleb Lomu
In the 28th overall pick they get a cornerstone up front, though they paid up to get him. A real need, handled.
Pick39 Rnd2 Fernando Mendoza
Steal is underselling it; Fernando Mendoza at pick No. 39 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick70 Rnd3 Jaeden Roberts
Jaeden Roberts at No. 70 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick107 Rnd4 Monroe Freeling
They paid a round early for Monroe Freeling in pick 107, more than the board wanted. The roster fit checks out.
Pick139 Rnd5 Emmanuel McNeil-Warren
They barely believed it either: Emmanuel McNeil-Warren still on the board at the Round 5 slot. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick144 Rnd5 Kenyatta Jackson Jr.
A top-tier edge rusher at a bargain, Kenyatta Jackson Jr. in slot 144, plain and simple. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick147 Rnd5 Jacob Rodriguez
Jacob Rodriguez at the 147th pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick206 Rnd6 DJ Campbell
A quiet steal in the 206th pick: DJ Campbell for less than the market said. It fills a real need, too.
Pick248 Rnd7 Malik Hartford
A slide stopped in No. 248, with Malik Hartford worth more than the price. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
