Draft Grade — Ravens
Overall D
ValueB NeedB TradesF FutureB-
The Ravens bled value on every deal, hence the D.

There is conviction, and then there is this. The Ravens took Marvin Jones Jr. a full 86 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend. Put together, it is a D.

Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped running back, which is a strange place to end up. Getting Bell where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.

On the needs board they went 6 of 8, with cornerback the one that mattered most.

It is a steep hill from here, and the grade knows it.

Pick Analysis
Pick18 Rnd1 Arvell Reese
In Round 1, Pick 18 they get a sideline-to-sideline linebacker at a price that makes it sweeter. More want than need.
Pick45 Rnd2 Dillon Thieneman
A slide stopped in the 45th overall pick, with Dillon Thieneman worth more than the price. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick49 Rnd2 Caleb Banks
A quiet steal in No. 49: Caleb Banks for less than the market said. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick58 Rnd2 Chris Bell
They barely believed it either: Chris Bell still on the board at pick No. 58. The roster fit checks out.
Pick80 Rnd3 Chase Bisontis
They did well to land Chase Bisontis in pick 80, just ahead of his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick109 Rnd4 Ja'Kobi Lane
You do not let a wide receiver like Ja'Kobi Lane reach the 109th pick and blink. They did not. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick125 Rnd4 Jalon Kilgore
They read the board right and Jalon Kilgore was the payoff at pick 125. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick146 Rnd5 Jaeden Roberts
A reasonable price with a little left over, Jaeden Roberts in slot 146. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick152 Rnd5 DeMonte Capehart
DeMonte Capehart is a better player than the 152nd pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick160 Rnd5 Jude Bowry
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Jude Bowry in pick No. 160. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick172 Rnd5 Ephesians Prysock
They jumped the gun on Ephesians Prysock, taking him earlier than his grade liked. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick173 Rnd5 VJ Payne
They talked themselves into VJ Payne at the Round 5 slot, and the board did not agree. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick189 Rnd6 Marlin Klein
They let Marlin Klein come to them and pounced at the 189th overall pick. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick207 Rnd6 Sam Roush
A straight-up fair deal on Sam Roush at Round 6, Pick 28, value and slot in agreement. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick234 Rnd7 Jeff Caldwell
Jeff Caldwell at Round 7, Pick 18 is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick249 Rnd7 Trey Zuhn III
They took Trey Zuhn III at par in pick No. 249, which is nothing to complain about. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick252 Rnd7 Marvin Jones Jr.
Marvin Jones Jr. at No. 252 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
