Draft Grade — Bills
Overall B-
ValueB NeedB+ TradesB FutureD
A sensible, unshowy class lands the Bills a B-.

Everything else got attention, and linebacker got none. That is a strange way for the Bills to leave a draft.

The veteran additions, Nico Collins chief among them, give the class a floor the rookies alone would not. Reaching for Robinson left real value on the table behind him. A modest surplus at the table, banked quietly.

The bill for those future picks comes due whether the class hits or not.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but linebacker.

Pick Analysis
Pick9 Rnd1 Caleb Downs
In No. 9 they get a downhill hitter at safety at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick55 Rnd2 Darrell Jackson Jr.
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Darrell Jackson Jr.. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick123 Rnd4 Chris Johnson
A tidy little value on Chris Johnson in the 123rd overall pick, a step better than break-even. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick164 Rnd5 Duce Robinson
Duce Robinson in pick 164 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick230 Rnd7 Trey Zuhn III
Trey Zuhn III at pick No. 230 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
